UUttarakhand Provincial Civil Services (UKPCS Uttarakhand PCS) is the state government exam organised by the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC). Provincial Civil Services is a full form of PCS. Before we commence further on UKPSC we would like you to give a brief introduction on the formation of the UKPCS. Uttarakhand PCS Exam was started with the formation of new state, now known as the Uttarakhand which was formed on 9th November 2000 from its parent state the Uttar Pradesh under UP Act 2000.

Most of the states in India have their own Public Service Commission. such as UPPSC, MPPSC, BPSC, HPPSC, APPSC, TNPSC, MPSC etc. After the formation of new state Uttarakhand, a strong need was felt by the government to form a commission which will recruit officers for various departments for smooth functioning of government business and also to implement government policies. The dream was fulfilled on 15 May 2001 when Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC ) was born. In fact the power to constitute such a commission is inherent in the Constitution of India.
The Uttrakhand Public Service Commission is being headed by a chairman and six members. The term of the member is fixed for a period of 6 years. The maximum age for a member to hold the office is 62 years.
The chief function of the UKPSC is to conduct examinations for the recruitment of officers for Uttrakhand state in various government offices.
The recruitment process starts with the release of official notification which contains all information about the vacant posts, UKPSC examination pattern, UKPCS eligibility criteria, How to apply, UKPCS exam date, UKPSC admit card, UKPSC result etc.
UKPCS exam is held in three stage. The first stage is called UKPCS Preliminary or UKPCS Pre. This is a multiple choice type examination. Those candidates who qualify UKPCS Pre can appear in the second stage called UKPCS Mains. This is essay type exam. After qualifying UKPCS Mains an aspirant will have to appear in the final stage that is UKPCS Interview. The fianl result is prepared by adding the marks obtained in UKPCS Mains and UKPCS Interview. Only best of the candidates can make it to UKPSC.
Difference between the IAS and PCS
Indian Administrative services (IAS) exam is an all India based examination; aspirants from all over the country apply for entrance test which is organized by the Union Public Service Commissions also known as UPSC. The officers recruited can be deputed anywhere in India under the Union Government of India.
PCS is the acronym for Provincial Civil Services, which is also an administrative service but confined to the State. PCS officers works for the policy making of the state. We have already discussed above the recruitment process of the PCS officers, just for refreshing the memory, the examination and recruitment both are done by the state-owned Public Service Commission, for the state of Uttarakhand it is the UKPSC which conducts UKPCS exam. The appearing candidates should be a domiciled resident of that state, few seats are also reserved for interested candidates from another state also.
The process of examination for IAS and PCS are same as the candidates have to sit for prelim, mains examination and lastly have to go through a personal interview. Aspirants have to strive hard to prove their calibre, talent, mental strength, decision making ability etc. Civil services are the destiny for the best of the bests.

Uttarakhand Public Service Commission is the responsible agency to conduct the PCS examination in the state, in recent time the commission has changed the examination syllabus and pattern. The aspirants who wish in appear in Uttarakhand PCS exam should have a recognized Graduate Degree from a recognized institution/University. However, a recognized Diploma is also required for some of the positions. These are minimum educational qualification required for most of the PCS Jobs.
Age limit for Uttarakhand Pcs Exam, UKPSC Age limit
The minimum age limit for applying the Uttarakhand PCS Exam is 21 years while the maximum age limit is 42 years. The student from OBC category also gets 3 years age relaxation and the candidate from SC/ST category gets 5 years relaxation.
- Almost Many Services under PCS required the candidates must be Physically Good and fit (exceptional instances also exist), the aspirants must be fluent in English and Hindi languages. The working knowledge of the additional languages will be an advantage.
