AILET 2018- Application, Exam Pattern, Syllabus, Complete Detail


National Law University has published AILET 2017 official announcement to conduct a national level exam AILET 2018-19 (All India Law Entrance Test) for all aspiring candidates. The exam will be held on 7th May 2017. This exam is held every year. Candidates from all over India are invited to apply to get admission in Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses of this prestigious university.  The courses include B.A., LL.B. Hons- 5 years,   LL.M.(1 year) and PhD. Here we also would like to make you aware of the llb full form i.e. Bachelor of Laws or the Legum Baccalaureus. LLB is a professional  Law degree, which opens the avenue to the practice of law in most countries excluding the United States, there is the first professional degree in law is called the Juris Doctor or the J.D. and no longer the LL.B.

Instruction to fill AILET Application Form 2018-19

Candidates, please note the following important points in order to apply for  AILET 2018.

  • It is mandatory for a candidate to register first on the official on-line portal.
  • Registration will likely to start from 1st week of January 2018.
  • Candidates are required to fill correct information in user registration form.
  • Candidates must have valid e-mail ID and mobile number in order to register.
  • Scanned photograph/signature (between 10KB to 100KB) will be uploaded in JPEG format.
  • At last, submit and save all the details.

AILET 2018 Application Fee:

For General applicants application fee is Rs. 3000/-.

Ffor SC/ST and Persons with Disability candidates application fee is Rs. 1000/-.

No fee will be charged from BPL candidates of SC/ST category.

Candidates can make payment through a payment gateway of net banking/credit card/debit card.

AILET Qualification/Eligibility criteria

The eligibility criteria for the various course is given below.

B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) Course:

Candidate must qualify 10+2 or equivalent from a recognised board.

Minimum marks in the qualifying exam must not be less than 50%.

General candidate must be below 20 years as on 1 July 2017. Candidates belonging to  SC/ST should be below 22 years as on  1 July 2017.

Please note that candidate appearing in class 12th this year can also apply.

Availability of seats:

The total number of the seat are 83 out of which 70 seats will be filled through entrance exam (AILET 2018). Remaining 10 seats are available for foreign candidates through direct admission. Foreign candidates need not take an entrance exam (AILET-2018). remaining 3 seats are reserved, 1 for Kashmiri Migrants and 2 for residents of Jammu & Kashmir.

LL.M. Course:

A candidate must pass the LL.B. or equivalent degree from a recognised university.

Minimum marks in the qualifying exam must not be less than 55% for candidates belonging to General category and 50% for candidates from SC/ST/PH categories.

Candidates appearing in final year of LL.B. are also eligible to apply.

Availability of seats:

A total number of seat for L.L.M. are 40 (Number of seats may vary) out of which 35 seats will be filled through entrance exam (AILET 2018). Remaining 5 seats are available for foreign candidates through direct admission. Foreign candidates need not take entrance exam (AILET-2017)ailet 2017


Ph.D. Course:

  • Qualifying Exam: Candidate must hold the master’s degree in Law from recognised university.
  • Minimum Marks: Candidate must secure 55% marks or its equivalent (50% marks for reserved categories).

 AILET 2018 Exam Pattern and Syllabus

The pattern of examination for all the three courses will different from one another. The details of each course are given below.

1.For B.A., LLB (Hons.)

There will be one multiple choice type question paper containing 150 questions. Time duration is one hour and thirty minutes. Questions will be based on  English, General Knowledge, Legal Aptitude, Reasoning, and Elementary Mathematics (Numerical Ability).

2. For LL.M. Course:

There will be one multiple choice type question paper containing 1o0 questions and one essay type question. Time duration is 1 hour and 30 minutes.  Total marks are 150. Questions will be based on Law of Contracts, Law of Torts, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law and Legal Theory

3. For Ph.D. Course

Entrance test for Ph.D.will consists of the following 2 papers.

Paper I – Research Methodology (100 marks)

This is MCQ type question paper. No. of questions is 100. Maximum marks for this paper are 100.and allowed time is one hour and a half.Paper II-Research Proposal Specific Paper(100 marks)

A proposal on the topic of interest shall be submitted by the aspiring candidate. The Research Proposal shall contain
1. Title of the topic of interest
2. Statement of problem & background information on the subject
3. Research questions, Hypothesis & Methodology; and
4. Research design

Interview: Those candidates who qualify written test (both Paper I & Paper II) will be called for interview.

Tips to crack AILET 2018

Know your syllabus thoroughly.

As there is no negative marking, answer all questions.

Distribute time among different sections viz. English, General Knowledge, Legal Aptitude etc.

If a question is taking more time, leave it and come back later if time permits. It is not wise to waste time on one question.

AILET Admit Card 2018

The AILET 2018 Admit Card will be made available for the download from by the university website in the 2nd week of April 2018. You can check and download admit card through the  AILET website. Your admit card will contain all the information like your exam centre, exam date & time of the exam, your name & roll number. It is mandatory to carry your valid admit card as issued by Univerity to appear in the examination hall.

The result of LLM and Ph.D. courses will be declared on 1st & 15th July 2017 (tentative) respectively.

AILET Counselling 2018

Allotment of seats will be done through the process of counseling which will be based on entrance examination score. AILET Counselling 2018 will start from the 4th week of June 2018.
